How Reviews Work (SM-2)
Every word in WeaveWords is scheduled with the SM-2 algorithm — see the full breakdown of how SM-2 works. What's less obvious is that the two main practice modes feed SM-2 a "quality" score in genuinely different ways.
Flashcards: you rate yourself
In Flashcards mode, you flip the card and then click one of three buttons: Still Learning, Know It, or Mastered. These map directly to SM-2 quality scores of 1, 3, and 5 — an explicit, self-reported signal of how well you recalled the word.
Quiz: WeaveWords rates you automatically
In Quiz mode there's no rating button at all — the quality score is computed for you from correctness and response time: answer correctly in under 4 seconds and it scores 5, under 6 seconds scores 4, a slower correct answer scores 3, and an incorrect answer scores 1. The idea is that how fast you recognize the right answer is itself a signal of how well you know the word.
Error Review
After a Quiz session, Error Review lists every word you got wrong: the correct answer, an explanation, and example sentences, with a direct link to edit the word if the mistake was actually a bad translation or example. Click "Back" to return to where you left off in the quiz.
If you tend to overrate yourself in Flashcards ("Know It" when you actually hesitated), mixing in Quiz sessions gives SM-2 a more objective signal, since it doesn't rely on self-assessment at all.
